A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

My Story

Hi I'm Natalie, I live in Skipton with my husband Aaron and our 3 children. Ellie is 15, Jesse is 9 and Georgie is 2. I am currently a self employed childminder part time and I run Little Adventures Montessori inspired sensory and messy play classes and parties. I am passionate about early years and have over 19 years childcare experience with a BA (hons) degree in Early Years. As a childminder and mum of three I value the importance of play, promoting independence whilst having fun! Little Adventures brings you just that, an opportunity for your little ones to explore and be creative. I have an interest in photography and qualified to level 3. I love capturing a picture or two which will come in handy when capturing the little adventurers during my sessions.

WHY CHOOSE LITTLE ADVENTURES?

I came up with the idea 💡 for little adventures when I was on maternity leave with my youngest Georgie.Little adventures gives me the opportunity to keep a good work life balance and for me to be able to continue to spend as much time with Georgie as possible whilst providing some awesome messy adventures in class for everyone else.

Children learn through play and these classes provide the opportunties for children to make marks developing early writing skill and so much more.

Little Adventures is Montessori inspired and provides multi sensory experiences that are fun, allows your child to be creative , explore and learn and is based on seeking out new adventures through stories, themes and play. The stories and themes provide opportunity to introduce  a range of new words and develop children's communication and language skills which is one of the prime areas of the early years foundation  stage profile (EYFS).

Little adventures encourages children to be active learners within a safe environment giving them choices and opportunity to be independent learners. I  have a range of different areas set up to provide lots of opportunities for sensory exploration using mainly wooden and other natural resources in line with our Montessori approach. The classes provide a variety of opportunity to explore new textures and activities that use both gross motor and fine motor skills. The children can get as messy as they feel comfortable with using a range of different materials such as playdough, gloop, spaghetti, flour etc.

We have messy trays that are taste safe and by exploring different textures can be a great way to introduce food to babies who are weaning.

The classes are also a great way for parents, carers to meet other parents 🙂

ETHICS & SAFETY

At little adventures we are environmentally conscious and aware that we can all do our bit to ensure we look after our environment but also keep it safe. We do our best to recycle and be as eco friendly as possible. We uses natural materials as much as possible in classes and use lots of wooden toys as they are more eco friendly, long lasting and what's more is that they have great sensory benefits for the children too unlike plastic ones. On saying this it doesn't mean we should throw away any plastic resources we may already have as this in its self would be very unethical. However, when these resources are no longer fit for purpose they are replaced with more natural and eco friendly ones.

Our water toys are eco friendly and 100% plastic free or recycled plastic. I have also taken great care to source water toys that can easily cleaned so that they can't harvest any nasty bacterias. If glitter is used this would only be eco glitter. When using batteries i use rechargable batteries. I use bags for life to transport my class materials and these are cleaned rather than using throw away bags for messy materials etc at the end of classes. Flannels are provided at the end of classes for bath time to limit the need for disposable wipes to be used and parents are asked if they would like a little bath at the end of class for their little ones so we are only making up the required amount. When washing the flannels, towels etc used in classes we only use eco balls/ soap nuts. We have an eco paint wall that I wash after each use. I am also aware that there may be other things that could be changed in order to do more to be eco friendly that i may not have thought off and therefore welcome any other suggestions 🙂

Safety is very important at little adventures and all resources used will be age appropriate. All resources and equipment are checked and cleaned after each use. Regular risk assessments are carried out for all venues to ensure the environment is suitable for our classes. I also have current paediatric first aid training (renewed January 2023) which is updated every four years but I do complete a refresher course every year. I ensure the floor is taped down to avoid it been a trip hazard. Any spillages will be cleaned up as necessary.

WHY DOES MIXED AGED CLASSES WORK SO WELL?

The EYFS says all children learn at their own rates and have different abilities so by having mixed age groups we are not restricting children. They are able to mix with different aged children watching and learning from each other  developing their social skills at the same time.

Older children become role models for the younger children, taking a leadership role among their peers builds confidence and promotes kindness. Young children can watch,  learn  to take risks and explore what they see others doing. This can challenge them with the support from their peers.

What's not to love about mixed aged classes. Montessori  teaching is very much based on mixed aged groups and in practice it works wonderfully.

Don't just take my word for it. Here are some off the lovely Facebook and google reviews from my families ❤

Little Adventures is a MUST! My two little boys have absolutely LOVED the sessions we have managed to attend. There is something for EVERYONE! What a great way to allow your little ones to get messy & interact with other little ones at the same time. Natalie is amazing with what she does & very welcoming. Book yourselves on to a session & see for yourselves what it’s all about🎨🖌️
                   🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am very glad to came across the Messy play in Ingleton. Natalie’s very friendly and welcoming. We always love going there and willing to continue to do so. The classes are absolutely brilliant!Nat always provided different themes play in each week for them to try and explore. My son absolutely loved them. We always had a lovely time there. Highly recommend!👍🏻

My daughter loves it! Great idea for spending wonderful time together without making a mess at home  Highly recommended !!!

This is such a friendly group. I feel really relaxed here as it's well organised, my daughter loves all the different activites and everything is safe for her to play with.
I'm sure it's great for her development as well as being a nice break for me to chat to people whilst she's entertained.
I love the mix of wet and dry mess so she doesn't always end up covered in goo!

This class is so good. The best messy play class we have been to. The different themes are so well thought out and prepared and it’s given us so many ideas for what we can do at home too! The class is super friendly and my twin boys just love it. They are 10 months and I feel like it’s really let them explore and gain confidence in a lovely environment. Thank you little adventures! Xx

My 9 month old twins love their weekly little adventure. They are so stimulated by all the activities and things to touch and even taste. For an hour they are completely engrossed in the activities and watching all the other children play. Natalie is so accommodating and helpful and has such an amazing imagination to come up with all the different activities which all change every week. It's also given me inspiration for activities to do at home.

My little girl loves her weekly 'Little Adventure'. Each session has obviously had a great deal of thought put it into it with lots of fun and sensory experiences. The space and layout of the Montessori messy play areas means that my little one is free to explore safely with independence - not always possible in the home environment. Thanks to Nat for the amount of effort she puts in to each and every week'

You Asked, I Answered

DO YOU OFFER SINGLE SESSIONS?

We have monthly payment plans for our classes or the option to pay upfront for the full term ( 12 weeks) although we do have single one off special events including some Saturdays for those that can't commit to termly bookings.

WHY DON'T YOU OFFER SINGLE SESSIONS DURING THE TERM?

I have found that by not offering single sessions we mostly have the same families attending each week. This gives not only the children but the parents plenty of opportunities to get to know the other families in the classes and develop friendships. Also it is cheaper as our term block bookings work out at £6.50 per week! And £5 for siblings.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS POORLY?

At Little Adventures we appreciate that children do get poorly and know how frustrating it can be when you have to miss classes that you have paid for. We offer UNLIMITED messy play for £6.50 per week! So if you fancy doing more than once class a week you can book at a different venue so if your child is poorly or you have a holiday booked you can make up for the lost sessions or just if you fancy more value for money!. We have a few people who like to meet friends who live nearer our other locations.

WHAT AGE CAN MY BABY START MESSY PLAY?

We have lots of babies in our classes and we make sure we cater for babies from as young as 5 months. We have weaning in mind at every stage and regularly have recommended weaning foods such as vegetables available for the babies to explore and these are varied each week too.

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?

Yes, we offer childminder and sibling discounts. We also give our term book customers a discounted rate which works out at £6.50 per week rather than our single event classes which are £7.50 per class.
If you have any further questions please message me as I am always on hand to help with any questions you may have 😊

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BABY NEEDS CHANGING DURING CLASS?

We have baby changing facilities at all our venues so please ask if you are not sure where these are located.

WHAT IF MY BABY NEEDS FEEDING DURING CLASS?

Our classes are very relaxed and you are welcome to feed whenever you want throughout the sessions.

MY CHILD HAS AN ALLERGY CAN THEY STILL ATTEND?

Yes of course. We are allergy aware so please let me know of allergies in advance so we can plan for this.

MY CHILD DOESN'T LIKE CERTAIN TEXTURES/GETTING DIRTY WILL YOUR CLASSES BE SUITABLE?

Absolutely, our classes are a great way for children to build confidence and work on those sensory issues. We have at least 6 different themed messy play trays set up changing weekly based on the new theme but we have a good mixture between wet/dry mess, painting, playdough. We have additional areas such as our cosy den with our fibre optics a perfect place for sharing a book. The great thing is that there is such a range of activities to explore that they really can stay as clean or get as messy as they want.
